Bad weather and snowfall for two consecutive days created problems on some national roads, mainly in the higher lands of the country. After the snow has stopped, ice on the road has become a problem and drivers are recommended wheelchains for problematic areas.
In Shkodër in the northwest, last night the temperatures reached -10 degrees Celsius in the tourist spots of Qafe Thores and Vermoshi. Low temperatures were seen the entire region of Shkodra, but without problems in road communication or the movement of residents, since all roads are passable.
Tourists were not absent this weekend in the mountain resorts of Pukë, Theth, Bogë and Razëm, while visitors who preferred Lepusha and Vermoshi were faced with a lack of electricity, a problem that has been going on for several days. Residents say this problem has been around for a week and they are forced to wait for tourists by candlelight.
The thermometer during the night also in Dibër, in the northeast, recorded the lowest values that reached up to -10 degrees. There is no more snow on the national road axes, but there is ice, so drivers should pay attention. Arbri Highway is passable, but there is presence of ice. There’s also on the Pishat e Bulqizes road, though tha groups are working by salting the surface. There is ice on the Peshkopi – Kukës road from Sllova to Vasie, so wheelchains must be used in the early hours of the morning and at night.
Elbasan
Temperatures as low as 15 degrees and frost have also invaded the mountainous areas of the district of Elbasan in central Albania, where the roads can only be crossed with wheelchains due to the large presence of snow.
Also, the deep villages of Librazhd, such as Qarrishta or Sopoti in Prrenjas, deep areas of Gramsh, have difficulties in vehicle circulation due to frost and it is recommended to move only with wheelchains or winter tires. Some mountain villages have power outages due to bad weather.
In the southeastern region of Korça, the drop in temperatures during the night has made some village road segments impassable due to ice. Authorities recommend drivers to be equipped with wheelchains, while work is also being done to clear the ice. The national roads are open and without problems.
In the mountain national park of Llogora, in the southwestern coastal area, the snowfall gave a picturesque view. The national road Vlorë-Llogora-Himarë this Monday morning was passable after the continuous work of the service groups throughout the evening.
