Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Socialist Movement for Integration, the ally of the ruling party of
Mr. Berisha, asked the MPs to vote the package that removes the
immunities. According to them, this is not a political battle, but an
obligation of the political forces for the country’s integration.
“SMI considers as futile the debate or rhetoric that doesn’t bring the parties to reach a consensus and vote the amends that are related with the lifting of the immunity”, declared the General Secretary of the SMI, Luan Rama.
“By lifting immunity you do not damage the dignity of anyone who has a formal legal immunity due to their job in the government”, he declared.
Luan Rama announced that the SMI will contribute to enable the fulfillment of this obligation.
“The immunity lifting should not be a test of force of one party to another, but a test for showing how much committed the political parties are for fulfilling the EU membership recommendations”, Rama emphasized.
He added that on the 100th anniversary of independence, Albania must fulfill the criteria for receiving the EU candidate status.
