SMI: All inclusive reforms

The General Secretary of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Luan
Rama, greeted the pact reached between the Democratic and Socialist
Parties for the electoral reform, considering it as a welcomed step and
European behavior of the Albanian political factor.

“Since the Parliament will be placed in front of the new reality, we hope and believe that the electoral reform not only will be realized in full accordance with the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations, but most importantly, the Socialist Movement for Integration will invest maximally in order to guarantee all-inclusion and transparency for this process. It is important to have an all-inclusive process, because a reform cannot be successful if it is a monopoly of two or three parties”, Luan Rama declared.

Asked by Top-Channel about what kind of electoral system would the SMI prefer to be included in the reform, Rama replied:

“Let us see a system that reads the citizens’ vote better, and that enables every vote to be represented in the Parliament. A national proportional might be the best solution. If this would not be possible, the current system with a national correction would also be a better solution. Regardless the system, we are convinced that the role of the Socialist Movement for Integration, as an important and determining factor for creating the governing majorities, is not related with the system, but it is a role that comes from the political factorization”.
