Small parties’ request

The small parties of both political spectrums asked the Parliamentary
Commission of the Electoral Reform to review their requests regarding
the correction of the electoral system and for having access in the
ballot counting process of the next parliamentary elections.

“We must make a positive pressure on both big parties, but first of all, I appeal the majority colleagues to influence at the Democratic Party for our mutual goal. We have made it clear to the Socialist Party that more persistence is needed in the talks”, declared the leader of Social Democracy Party, Paskal Milo.

The main partner of the governing coalition, Ilir Meta, declared that they need a reform that returns the trust to the citizens that their vote will be equal, as the Constitution provides, and that it will be read directly and in a transparent way.

“For this, we asked for a review of the vote calculation system, so that it can create equality of votes. All these matters must be discussed by the Electoral Reform Commission. Their completion within July is as important as the elections and their standard”, Meta declared.

“Albania and Belarus are the only countries in Europe where the ballots are not counted by the small parties”, declared Neritan Ceka, from the Democratic Alliance Party.

Petro Koci from the PSV91 said that the document signed by 26 political parties is turning into a toilet paper, and the close political and personal interests are dominating over the public’s interest.

The Republican Party leader, Fatmir Mediu, read a declaration that was sent to the Electoral Reform Commission and the international factor accredited to Tirana, asking their help.

SP reaction

The Socialist Party reacted through the Co-Chairman of the Electoral Reform Commission, Damian Gjiknuri, underlining the will of the biggest opposition party to push the reform ahead.

“We have been very open for the correction of the electoral system, and we stand to this position. It is time for the Democratic Party to declare publicly if they are ready to correct the electoral system or not, if they will support the agreement signed by the 26 small parties or not”, Gjiknuri declared.
