Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
After six months under police custody and an accelerated trial, Emiliano
Shullazi was found innocent and immediately released by the Tirana
Criminal Court.
Judge Martin Deda declared that there is no evidence against the 33-year-old that had been previously arrested for firearm possession, but it resulted that the weapons were just for display.
Despite the Prosecution’s persistence that the weapon was found in the car where Shullazi was arrested, the Court found him not guilty.
While Dani was arrested with one year to prison for illegal arm possession, not for obstructing justice, as the prosecution claimed. This charge was also admitted by the defendant, who insisted during the court that the weapon belonged to him and not to Shullazi.
Emilioano Shullazi was arrested by the police on November 2011. The police seized a weapon in his car, while 8 months prior to this event, he was arrested for an electoral incident in Farke, but was released by the Court of Appeal.
The Prosecution had demanded four years to prison for Shullazi, and they are expected to appeal the case.
