The villages of the Vithkuq commune in Korce are 1500 meters above the
sea level and the snow thickness has reached record levels.
The roads connecting the villages are difficult to open, due to the thick snow, and only in the recent days the residents have been able to open some narrow trails for walking on foot to the centers that can communicate with the city of Korce. The Shtylle village has remained blocked for so long that the groceries have no more food.
The residents of the village complain that their food reserves are coming to an end.
“We have been isolated and without electric power for one month and a half. We have had no contact with people, because the roads are still blocked. The grocery shops have no more food to offer”, the residents declared.
Due to the isolation and the blocked roads, the children have been unable to go to school for the last two months. The residents and their children are obliged to walk for three hours to reach the center of the commune.
“We haven’t gone to school for more than one month, because it is a big distance and the roads are blocked”, the children say.
26 families of this village are fighting for survival. The homes have only a few kilograms of flour and they are obliged to live without tap water and electricity, far from any communication possibilities and fearing attacks from wild beasts.
