The vandalisms against nature throughout the Albanian territory were
brought once again in the attention of the Afternoon Show at “Top
Channel”.
Non functional and corrupted local and central administrations that watch while Albania’s environment is being destroyed, going towards even catastrophic phenomena, such as a quick devouring of the land by the sea.
Excessive usage and without criteria of the river bed of Seman River, Fier District, has caused the sea to advance 300 to 350 meters inland, and everything in the last 20 years, due to the uncontrolled exploitation of the nature.
Prof. Spiro Boci explains that the main causes are two: first, the sand removal for construction, which has started after 1992, and second are the interventions without criteria in the riverbed.
In the last 10 years, Seman has lost 200 hectares of beach, forests and land. The situation is expected to deteriorate with the construction of the Kalivaci hydropower plant, which will stop the inert materials brought by the Vjose River, damaging this area that is already losing 7 meters of beach per year.
The same situation appears in Durres, where water advances with 2 meters per year, and also at the delta of the Erzen River, which is one of the areas mostly affected by erosion.
