Tourists seem to have come this year in Albania not only for the coast, the lakes or the mountains, but also for historical and cultural visits to Shkodra in the northeast of the country.

On the list of the most visited during this tourist season is the Rozafa castle, the symbol of the city, also considered a meeting point of history and mythology.

“Very interesting. A friend told me how it was built, how much capacity it has, and how people were housed here. I come from England, and I read online about the castle. It was worth it!” – says an interviewed tourist.

“I love Shkodra and we are really enjoying the time we are spending in this city, that’s why I thought of coming to visit the castle as well. The architecture reflects different civilizations, is very impressive,” he added.

But visitors, especially those from Albania and Kosovo, also have complaints about parking spaces and informed guides.

The spokesman of the Shkodër Archaeological Park, Helidon Sokoli, says that the figures speak of a significant increase in visitors compared to last year.

“Comparing it with last year from January to today, the number of tourists in Shkodra Castle, who have exceeded the number of 82 thousand visitors, compared to 65 thousand last year. There is an increase in the tourist flow of European, but also of those coming from Israel and Arab countries” – said Sokoli.

In Shkodra it is reported that there are over 150 objects of cultural heritage.
