Shkoder Lake floods city

Besides Nenshkoder, the floods have affected some suburban areas of the
city. One of the residences in Tophane neighbourhood has been flooded a
few hours ago, due to the increase water level at the lake.

Remzi Myrtja says that his house was flooded six times in two years, and it cannot go on like this.

“My house is completely destroyed. This is the sixth time that we are flooded, and I haven’t been compensated even once. There are dozens like me, but they fear they will get fired”, Myrtja declared.

Water has flooded several houses in this area. The Municipality had warned the residents this Wednesday to evacuate their homes, but most of them refused because they have nowhere to go. The situation was created after the increased flow of the Drin River, which obstructs the flow of the Buna River.

One of the oldest cult objects in Shkoder and Albania, the Xhamia e Plumbit, has also been flooded several times. The Shkoder Imam Muhamet Syrtari reacted on Top Channel.

“This is a shame and a disgrace to God. Yesterday I wrote to the Minister of Culture, asking him to intervene immediately. I hope that spring will revive the will of the Minister and Albanian government to at least come and see the situation here with their eyes. I appeal all Shkoder MPs to visit this mosque at least once”, the Imam declared.

“Xhamia e Plumbit” is flooded every time that the Vau i Dejes HPP opens its gates. Although it is a cultural heritage object, the government has done nothing to protect or reconstruct it.
