The German newspaper, “Bild”, published an audio recording, part of a surveillance tape, which showed a conversation between Astrit Avdylaj and the brother of the Socialist MP for Shijak, Ilir Ndraxhi.
In a phone conversation with Top Channel, MP Ilir Ndraxhi denies any connection with the Avdylaj. He says that during the elections of 2017 he led the campaign without any influence or support from the Avdylaj. “I am proud of my job as a driver from 1991 to 1995. Later I worked with the family business that my father started in 1992”, he said.
Ndraxhi says that his involvement in politics came after requests made by the party structures in Shijak and Durres, which had been made since 2013. In 2017, he says, he responded positively to the request made by the citizens of Shijak.
“It is unthinkable and absurd for me to think that the Socialist Party and Vangjush Dako could be influenced by Astrit Avdylaj or other persons, in order to have me run for the SP”, he says.
As for the phone conversation between his brother and Astrit Avdyli, Ndraxhi says that it has taken place when his name was being mentioned as the possible candidate of the Socialist Party in Shijak.
“I was really thinking how to be able to manage both my business and the political commitment that I was asked to. At that time, my brother has received phone calls not only from Astrit Avdylaj, but also from many others who supported me as candidate for MP”, Ndraxhi says, adding that neither him nor his brother have ever been summoned by the Prosecution to testify, and that they are ready to do so if asked to.
