Shalsi: 9 Ministries spent 14 mln USD in 3 years

More than 14 million USD from the taxpayers’ money was spent by nine
ministries of Prime Minister Berisha for what is known as a state owned
advertisement. The Socialist Party says that this money was used in the
last three years as government propaganda. The Ministries have spent 9
million USD out of the 14 million USD budget from 2009 to 2011.

On the 9th day that the SP reports the state owned scandal, Socialist MP Eduart Shalsi made a summary of the facts and figures by referring to the official documents signed by the leaders of the ministries who have signed for paying the production and the broadcast of these advertisements.

“Every fact or figure that we have published so far has been supported by official documents. These tables show a clear traffic through which the public’s money are used to finance electoral campaigns against the opposition, in order to defame the opposition and to keep Berisha’s media with money. One of these tables shows the government’s expenses the total money spent only during the electoral years. Another one shows the total figure of the media sports and other activities that in total mount up to 14 million USD. Who has profited all this money? Certainly that the Promo of TV Klan and the TV Klan of Promo have taken the lion’s share of these funds”, Shalsi declared.

“The millions of the advertisements’ money were not used for the public, but for the private interests of Berisha’s clan and servicemen”, Shalsi declared.

“There are other ministries and institutions that have used the public’s money with the same irresponsibility and we have reason to believe that the numbers are much bigger and we will continue to publish them. Media has an irreplaceable role to inform the public and it’s necessary to support it with funds. To secure free and independent media, it is important to distribute the public’s money righteously and with transparence, not on blind political norms, but on clear and transparent criteria that are based on the ratings. This is what the Socialist Party will do for the future”, Shalsi declared.

According to the opposition, the numbers published from MP Shalsi are only part of what these ministries have spent on advertisements, since the Prime Ministry has spent millions of other USD with a special fund for advertisements.

The budget for Top Channel is minimal, less than local TVs and newspapers

The Ministries have spent around 12 million USD from 2007 and until now for advertisements and celebrations, according to the opposition. Most of this large amount of money, according to the SP, was received by companies, TVs and newspapers that are closed to the government.

For one week, MP Shalsi published the official documents and reported the figures used by the government for advertisements on a time when they cut funds for important operations such as the fires that burned national parks and thousands of hectares of forests.

The documents are officially signed and stamped by the Ministry of the current cabinet, as response of the requests sent a few months ago by MP Erjon Brace.
