Kosovo is planning to turn the Kosovo Security Forces into the Kosovo Armed Forces.
The structure of the KSF is that of the army. The name is the only thing different. However, Belgrade has reacted immediately.
NATO reacted after this announcement and in Serbia it was said that the Euro-Atlantic Alliance is against this decision of Kosovo.
Military analyst Alexandar Radic says that Serbia will oppose this, since the army would conclude the state-formation process of Kosovo, while Belgrade has opposed every single membership of Albanians in international institutions, from UNESCO to sport association. “If the army is created, it will be hard to say that Kosovo doesn’t exist as a state”, Radic said.
Serbia is usually against cooperation with NATO, but this time they see the Alliance on their side. Serbia’s arguments are war pacts.
“NATO countries that supported the independence say that the army cannot be formed without knowing the result of the NATO activities. There is a paradoxal situation here, because most of the Serbs have a negative opinion about NATO, but the government now wants NATO to stay in Kosovo”, Radic said.
