Belgrade wants to negotiate with Tirana officials on hundreds of years old territorial conflicts between Serbs and Albanians.
This was Serb president’s declarations, Boris Tadic, during a forum in Brussels, ofganized by German Marshall Fund. According to him, the term “kosovar” doesn’t exist and that territory only has Albanians and Serbs.
“My goal is to resolve historical conflicts that exist in Balkan”, Tadic declared.
“Do you mean ‘historically’ since war in Fushë Kosova or ‘historically’ after the ICJ decision?”, was the question raised by Mathew Horn, American lawyer.
“We would want to resolve historical conflicts started since more than 100 years between Serbs and Albanians. This is exactly what we are trying to achieve, and that means to have a compromise, not having one party that loses everything and the other part winning everything. It’s simple”, Tadic replied.
According to the Serbian president, the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade must start with technical matters that ease people’s life, and must end with painful matters, which means Kosovo’s separation.
“As for Kosovo, we should start from the reality on terrain. Today’s Albanians, same as in the past, do not accept the shelter of the Serbian sovereignty. Most of the northern Serbs in Kosovo do not accept the shelter of the Albanian sovereignty, and this is the reality we are living in. If you would ask me on what can Pristina Albanians offer to northern Serbs in Kosovo…”, Tadic added.
“I want to ask of what is that Kosovars in Pristina can offer to you”, “New York Time’s” Steven Erlanger insisted.
“Well, “Pristina Kosovars”, if you insist. But if you ask the serbs there if they are kosovars, they would say that no, they are serbs”, Tadic confirmed.
This is the first time that Serbian president publicly shows the need of a dialogue with Albania to resolve the hundreds of years old historical conflict between the two people.
