Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The declarations of the Albanian Prime Minister and other Albanian high
rank officials against Serbia’s action to remove the monument that
commemorated the martyrs of UCPMB (Liberation Army of Presheva, Medvdeva
and Bujanoc), were considered as incoherent and destabilizing by
Serbia.
The Serbian Foreign Ministry declares that the Albanian Prime Minister’s accusations fall against the positions he has previously held. The Ministry claims that the protection of ethnic minorities in Serbia is in full accordance with international standards, and the same is expected from Albania.
The Albanian Prime Minister considered the removal of the monument an act of racism, of hate and fear. Berisha also declared that Tirana would review its relations with Serbia.
A harsh reaction was also launched by the Albanian Foreign Minister, Edmond Panariti, during an interview on Top Channel’s “Shqip” this Monday.
“Calling the Albanians ‘terrorists’, means returning to the vocabulary used by the butcher of Balkan during his ethnic cleansing. Comparing the Albanians with Al Qaeda terrorists is a low gesture that we will not tolerate, and it will be used meetings with our international friends. I favour any integral solution. Dialogue is needed between the Albanians and Serbs in Presheva, so that we can resolve the situation without prejudice. Memorials are sanctioned by the European Union as a right that belongs to the local authorities. But for as long that Albanians are called ‘terrorists’, dialogue is impossible”, the Albanian main diplomat declared.
