The Serbian Police has arrested two Kosovo Police members. The news was
confirmed by the Serbian Interior Minister, Ivica Dacic, who declared
that the Serbian authorities have arrested in Merdare Shukri Binaku and
Sami Beqiri.

Dacic declared that the Kosovo Police agents had entered the Serbian territory with weapons and equipments for measuring distances.

According to him, this is a violation of the technical-military agreement signed in Kumanova, in 1999.

“What were they looking for in the territory of Central Serbia, and on what agreement”, Dacic asked, after meeting the family members of the Serbian police agents that were arrested in Kosovo and then released.

Dacic declared that he has contacted with the UNMIK, KFOR and EULEX, to explain their stance on this matter. Dacic warned reciprocity measures after the arrest of the Serbians in Kosovo.

Arrests, Prishtina: Serbia kidnapped policemen

“Aggression and kidnapping”, this is how Prishtina sees the arrest of the Kosovo policemen that were patrolling the border with Serbia, inside their area.

The Kosovo Interior Minister declared for Top Channel in a phone conversation that this kidnapping was made when the Kosovo policemen were patrolling the green area and they had not crossed to the Serbian territory.

“This is an unacceptable act of aggression, a kidnapping of the Kosovo Police in Kosovo who were patrolling the green line, and that had not crossed over to the Serbian territory. The Serbian gendarmerie ambushed them and this is completely unacceptable”, Minister Rexhepi declared.

Rexhepi declared that this increases the tensions between the two states and that Dacic continues the aggressive policy of Milosevic.

The government of Kosovo condemns the arrest. The arrest is considered as a desperate act of the Government of Serbia, which damages the agreements reached so far.

The Government of Kosovo invites all international institutions to take the necessary steps for influencing Belgrade to stop these arbitrary and illegal actions. The Government of Kosovo asked the Serbian government to release the Kosovo police immediately and without conditions.

The President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, considered the arrest as an attack against the institutional and territorial integrity of Kosovo. Jahjaga declared that the arrests of the Kosovo citizens do not contribute in the establishment of good relations between the countries.

The political parties reacted with harsh declarations.

The LDK Parliamentary Group leader, Ismet Beqiri, declared that this is an aggression against Kosovo and its sovereignty, because by arresting two policemen that patrol the border means that Serbia remains the same. He added that the Kosovo government should answer for the dialogue that it is making with it.

The Self-Determination Movement, referring to the photos published by Serbia, showing the arrested officers, considers this action shameful and revolting.

“This photo revolts you, regardless the circumstances, because it is similar to a kidnapping of terrorist organizations”, Self-Determination Movement declared, adding that the Kosovo Government tried to convince the Kosovo people and the international community through dialogue that Serbia has really changed from the ‘90s and now they deserve the candidate status, more by making concessions than by establishing conditions for Kosovo.

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ahmet Isufu, declared for Top Channel that “this is an act that shows that Serbia has not been reformed, that they are the same Serbia that have interfered with Kosovo. This is a result of the weak dialogue that have reduced the functionality of the Kosovo state”.
