Sequi: There’s no trust on electoral process

21/06/2013 08:30

Ettore Sequi, the European Union Ambassador in Albania, underlined on
Top Channel’s program “Wake Up” and on Top Albania Radio that the
citizens do not have enough trust on the electoral process.

The topics mentioned by Sequi during the show:

Elections – Good elections are important to progress. These elections are a critical test for the institutions of our country. Going towards Europe means conducting good elections.

Technology – It doesn’t replace the trust on the process. I see that Albania lacks of trust, and trust is the most important thing.

Votes of the youth – Those who vote for the first time have the chance to have their voices heard, and build the future. This is the contribution that they can give to the future of their country. The youth need to vote so that their voice can be heard. The Albanian youth is very active and I don’t think that they will let this opportunity go.

Refusing to vote due to disappointment – Not voting is wrong. Voting is not only right, but also a duty.

Invalid votes – The political offer is too big and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t vote for a party.

Observing elections as in “Big Brother” – Elections are observed in every country. This is a normal number of observers, on my opinion. The observation allows evaluation of the process and suggests improvements.

CEC – I have no idea why Parties do not agree for the Central Election Commission. It would be better to have some compromise, but I believe that everything will get resolved. You do not help the citizens’ trust this way.
