The EU Ambassador to Tirana, Ettore Sequi, handed over to the Albanian
Prime Minister the Progress Report published by the European Commission
today.

“The Commission recommends a conditioned status for Albania, so that the country fulfils some key reforms, such as the judiciary and parliamentary ones”, Sequi declared in a joint press conference with Berisha, underlining that Brussels asks from official Tirana to commit in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

Berisha underlined that the document that received today is the most important of these 22 years, and considered it as heroic.

“This is the biggest evaluation that the Albanians receive from the European Commission on their 100th year of independence. This support gives great energy and dedication to the government for working more on this agenda, as the main project of the Albanians for this century”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister expressed the opposition’s contribution, which, according to Berisha, after abandoning the boycott and blockage practices made it possible to pass important laws in Parliament.

“The ones who won today are the Albanian citizens, who have waited too much for this day. I promise in front of them and our international partners that we will make everything possible for promoting this agenda, as the best agenda for the deserved future of the Albanians”, Berisha declared.

Berisha reminded that the report suggests the start of the negotiations after the elections will be evaluated. He promised that he will do everything possible to guarantee a free and honest electoral process.

USA: A historical opportunity

After the proposition of the European Commission, the US Embassy in Tirana welcomed the EU Enlargement report that recommend the EU candidate status for Albania, with the condition of fulfilling the other key reforms.

The recommendation is a testimony of the constructive policies followed by the political parties in the last year, and for this reason it represents a historical opportunity for the Albanians.

We strongly support Albania’s efforts for the EU integration and encourage all parties to keep cooperating for concluding and implementing the suspended reforms.

Rama: Albania passes with conditions

The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, underlined on Twitter that Albania passed this test with conditions and that the European Commission evaluations are in full accordance with the concerns raised by the opposition and value their role in this process.

Rama says that this day has a special importance for Albania, and shows the opposition’s hard efforts to not leave Albania behind. The Socialist leader declared that the European Commission has considered Nishani’s presidential election as unilateral.

“In 2013, by winning the elections, we will liberate the integration process by opening a new page for the Albanian policy”, the opposition leader declared.
