Sequi hands EU refusal to Berisha

The EU ambassador in Tirana, Ettore Sequi, holding in his hands the EU
progress-report file that contains the words “political stalemate,
limited progress, little progress”, made his first stop at the Prime
Minister Sali Berisha office.

During a joint press release, they gave these declarations:

“The progress report is an important instrument that gives us an image of the state we are in, and shows the way that should be followed for advancing with the integration processes. The Albanian Prime Minister expressed the government’s readiness for continuing the efforts to implement the key elements received from the EC opinion. We believe that the EU integration road is and must be a national objective”, Sequi declared.

“I haven’t read the report yet, but I guarantee the ambassador that it is a real working schedule as regards the reforms. Albania has received a negative decision for the status. We have advanced with some of the requests, others have stalled. It is an unfortunate tradition that we seek the problems at the others and not in ourselves. The problems are within ourselves, because there is no country in the world that has politicians that do not vote integration laws”, Berisha declared.

Berisha admitted that the second refusal of the candidate status was a failure, but he said that the majority was not responsible for that. He continued analyzing the opposition:

“I am ready to address to the reform, but my rival proposes a ridiculous scheme. He proposes a consensus table, in which he wants to act without a consensus. I agree with him, tell him to plan the amends and bring them in Parliament, but only together with the international community. A majority can never be humiliated. I remain open for dialogue”, Berisha declared.

Berisha commented the propositions of the Socialist Party too, saying that he is ready for dialogue.

“If Mr. Rama wants to plan the amends, let he send them to the Commission of Venice, and I will pass them in the Parliament. For the Parliament Regulation, let us sit and talk, take the example of the European Parliament and discuss every article of it with our experts. But all he wants is power. He sends his requests to the Albanian President, so that he does whatever Rama wants. Topi is a President, but the majority is the one that represents the Albanians’ will”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister underlined many times that the integration matters will be solved by the Albanians, but he didn’t explain any platform for reaching this goal.

Ambassador Sequie handed the report to President Bamir Topi, who had just returned from the visit in Turkey, the Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto and the Opposition leader, Edi Rama.
