Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future All constructions of houses, dams and bridges should be built after a thorough seismologic study.
Prof.Dr.Eduard Sulstarova, through his recent monography: “Seismology, seismo-tectonics and probability assessment of seismic hazards in Albania”, notes the lack of law enforcement on this matter.
“Albania is among the countries with highest level of seismic movements in Europe. Albania has been hit by powerful earthquakes that have caused material damages and victims. In 1995, the Albanian government issued an order that all buildings higher than eight floors should undergo seismologic studies before construction, not only residential buildings, but others too. Unfortunately, this decision has not been implemented for all buildings”, Prof.Sulstarova declared.
For the first time in 30 years, Prof. Sulstarova created the new seismologic distribution maps that should get government approval in order to become mandatory for every construction.
“We demand and request the government to include these maps as a normative condition for all buildings in Albania, and replace the one made in the ‘80s and that is still in effect”, Sulstarova declared.
The data of this study, also reviewed by foreign experts, give the opportunity to project and build anti-seismic buildings which are safer and can resist to earthquakes.
