Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
New York Times published a provocative article a few times ago, giving
the wages of professors in different universities. The list is topped by
Harvard, where a full time professor is paid from 191.000 to 200.000
USD annually.
The list goes on with the universities of Columbia, Chicago and Pennsylvania in the tenth place, with a teacher receiving 170.000 USD annually.
This was for private schools, while public ones pay less. On top of the list for these universities was that of New Jersey, where a full time professor is paid 151.000 USD annually, while in the tenth place is the Rutgers University in Camden, with the annual wage going to 137.000 USD annually.
This is a controversial debate in the US, since professors’ wages are considered a factor that keeps the education prices high.
The reality in Albania is different. A professor in public universities is not paid higher than 8000 USD annually. The difference is 20 times, but not always.
The opposition has been reporting for many days now that the Prime Minister’s daughter has been received 146.000 USD in one year as a teacher.
Mrs.Berisha can be ranked on the list of the best paid American professors who teach in the best schools of the world.
