Search for lost sailors interrupted

The Turkish Fregate “TCG Barbaros” interrupted the search operation for the lost Turkish sailors of the “Reina 1” ship wreck.

The news was confirmed by official sources from the Durres Captain Office, while next week is expected an expert group from the ship insurance company.  

The two survived sailors returned to Turkey this week, after receiving the first medical treatments at the Durres regional Hospital. The first searches for the eight disappeared sailors went on for 10 days. The Turkish frigate, specialized in finding the lost bodies in the sea was unable to find them with the first operation, a few hours after the collision that caused the ship to sink.

After cleaning the equipments, the frigate undertook a longer search, but that unfortunately was unsuccessful. This search was conducted in the international waters of Adriatic, near the incident area. The search gave no results and the Turkish frigate has officially interrupted the operation.

The ship with the Maltese flag and Turkish crew sank after it collided with the “Ankara” ferry. Eight of the 10 sailors resulted lost, while the Captain and the Second Officer were saved by the “Ankara” crew.

Boat from “Reina 1” found

The boat was found by the ferry “Filipos”, and the Turkish frigate rushed to the scene and started the searches for the lost sailors. In the area have also arrived vessels from Albania and Montenegro.

There is no information if the boat of Reina 1 has any sign of the sailors’ bodies.

The searches have continued intensively for the eight sailors that were lost after the cargo ship “Reina 1” had a collision with the ferry “Ankara”.

The only survivors were the ship Captain, Ahmet Soyturk and the Second Officer of the ship, Ahmet Bal.
