SD asks repeal of media damaging law

The Self-Determination movement has submitted the Kosovo’s Penal Code at
the Constitutional Court, after it passed in Parliament one week ago.
SD considers articles 37, 38 and 39 of this law as dangerous for the
media freedom in Kosovo.
SD will ask the Court’s opinion if these articles are against the Constitution. SD is the first political force that reported the danger of this law.
The Kosovo Parliament passed the request of President Atifete Jahjaga for removing from the Penal Code the articles 37 and 38, which sanction slander of journalists and reveal the information source for criminal cases.
Right after this failure, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice resigned, and there were reactions from President Atifete Jahjaga, the Prime Minister and the EU special representative in Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar.
