“Scrapomania”, explosive to TV antenna

A 22-year-old identified as Alvaro Jace, from Kolonje, Korce, was accused over property destruction charges.

The police declared that he had used dynamite to blow up a TV antenna, in order to take its metallic parts and sell them for scrap.

The robbery of metal objects has turned in a new mania for the robbers, who target everything, obliged by the poor life conditions.

Four people were arrested a few days ago, and another one is on the run for similar charges.

Three villages faced the lack of electric energy after three electricity poles were taken down by robbers.

This phenomenon has also affected the Lac former phosphate plant, which has been abandoned by the state and is being dismantled slowly by the residents, who sell the metal parts for scrap.
