Martin Schulz, a German official, started the speech in front of the
Albanian Parliament with a deep apology regarding the Borova massacre
during the Second World War, caused by German soldiers. Even after 72
years, Schulz didn’t hesitate to declare this was a shame for his
citizens.

He also reminded and praised the humanity of the Albanian people who welcomed the Jewish people by putting themselves at risk. He also praised Albania’s foreign policy, especially in the region and the relations with Serbia. He considered the visits of Rama and Vucic in the respective countries as important steps towards understanding.

Schulz said that Western Balkan countries should not allow third parties to create enmity between neighbors, such as those countries that use energy issues for political pressure, certainly referring to Russia.

However, in the end of the speech, Schulz criticized the Albanian politicians for not knowing how to cooperate. And as in every other case when a high-rank EU official speaks in Parliament, all MPs were present today.

The President of the European parliament declared that the administrations and independent institutions are the key of success to Europe. He reminded the Albanian elected ones that the other EU members have made extraordinary sacrifices to reform their countries. He said tha the final message was addressed to the Albanian people.

“The European MPs support the Albanian citizens who want to build a peaceful future, who commit for the implementation of the reforms and who lay their reconciliation hand to their neighbors for mutual respect. Thank you ladies and gentlemen for the special honor to speak in front of the Parliament of this great country”, Schulz concluded.
