Schultz congratulates Nishani

The Head of the European Parliament, Martin Schultz, sent a
congratulatory letter to the newly elected Albanian President, Bujar
Nishani, saying that his election comes in a critical moment for the
country, while Albania will have another test this autumn for the
European Integration.
Schultz says to Nishani that he believes that he will represent the unity of the nation, will promote dialogue between political parties and will guarantee the independence of powers and the rule of law”.

Schultz also says in his letter that the European Parliament has followed the presidential process very closely, and although the political classes were unable to find a consensual candidate, he believes that he will cooperate with all political forces, and that he will reinforce the political dialogue between the government and the opposition, which is essential for passing the reforms and the 12 criteria of the European Commission.

Schultz ends his letter by saying that he remains optimistic that Nishani will be able to soften the political tensions, to help Albania develop and receive the EU candidate status this year, which is very important for the Albanian people.
