Schools are getting empty, number of children enrolled in first grade in Albania continues to decline

Another drastic decrease in the number of students starting school on Monday is expected to be recorded in Albania.

The Ministry of Education has postponed for the second time the deadline for the student registration process, giving it the opportunity until Sunday at 23:59, as a low number of registrations was recorded.

The general directorate of pre-university education has opened and closed twice the system for the registration of students, while some first classes are reported to be closing in the country’s schools due to the lack of students.

Top Channel has learned that so far there are nearly 27,000 students enrolled in the tenth grade of primary school, about 1,000 students less compared to a year ago. But there is also a significant decrease in the children who sit on the school benches for the first time.

This significant decrease this year is argued by the decrease in the number of births for the first grades, while the low number in the tenth grades reflects the mass migration of Albanians to EU countries.
