Sonia is an 8-year-old girl who suffers from autism. On the
international day of this disease, she makes an appeal to not exclude
these children from society. The words of Sonia’s mother transmit a
message on behalf of several mothers who face this challenge.
“I feel often desperate. I always ask myself why it happened to me. Then I calm myself down and say that God chose me, gave me the strength to face this challenge. I have been following my daughter for eight years. She is in the kindergarten even now. This age group doesn’t understand the problem of my daughter. Now it comes a moment when even other children will keep her away”, Sonia’s mother declared.
Autism is increasing rapidly not only in Albania, but also throughout the world. There is a 30% increase of cases each year. Different from other countries, autism signs are identified very late in Albania.
“Every five years there are alarming figures. Many children are left out of attention and don’t receive support. Specific knowledge and lessons are needed for autism”, declared Ariel Como.
Experts met and asked the establishing of health centers for autistic children, for treating teachers and psychologists who work with them. According to studies, autism is created because of abnormal development of the brain crust, which are created before birth. There are no statistics in Albania about the persons who suffer of autism.
