The Albanian State Police announced for the media the arrest of three
persons accused of smuggling medicine, and one of them is the father of
the Socialist MP, Sajmir Tahiri.

“The sector against Economic and Financial Crime at the Tirana Police arrested in the act three citizens while smuggling goods that are paid on excise, smuggling of licensed goods, trading and transporting smuggled goods and preserving and depositing smuggled goods. The suspects are: Dritan Gjiza, 27; Bashkim Tahiri, 62 and Nadire Taga, 63, all of them residents of Tirana”, the Police announced.

According to the police, the suspects had been under surveillance for three months. They had been cooperating to transport the medicaments from a health centre in Italy, and sell them in Tirana.

The citizens were caught in the act by exchanging a lot of medicaments mounting up to a value of 10.000 EUR near the Todi Shkurti area, Tirana.

Lawyer Plarent Ndrec says that he was not allowed to meet his client, Bashkim Tahiri. During a declaration on Top Channel, he declared that for as long that the lawyer will not be allowed to meet his client, there’s room to suspect that these actions are intentional to affect the conclusion of the case.

“The fact that the state police rushed to give a press release without making the arrest, means that the police is using this procedure as a trophy. All these facts leave room to suspect that the procedure is compromised”, Ndreca declared.

The lawyer says that the police was informed that their client was caught with a plastic bag with 100.000 ALL inside.

Tahiri: Full investigation. Arrest, pressure to shut me up

The Socialist Party MP, Saimir Tahiri, reacted on a press statement saying that he encourages a full investigation and accused Prime Minister Berisha and the Interior Minister of not reporting the government’s corruption.

“No one can stand above the law, even my father. I encourage anyone to investigate anyone, even my father. But I can’t believe that Berisha, Noka and Kulicaj, who didn’t hesitate to fine me for the sake of Berisha’s children, now are unable to do a lot of more against me. I guarantee them that they will not be able to make me stop reporting their crimes. I will never stop guaranteeing the citizens that everyone will be equal in front of the law. I hope that the investigation for my father will be complete, and the same will be for Berisha’s children. They must stay assured that my reports will not stop by these pressures”, Tahiri declared.

The Socialist MP declared that he was not allowed to meet his father, same as the lawyer.

“They didn’t allow me to meet my father. I came here as an MP, dedicated to the law, to meet my father, and nothing can stop me from doing this. I promise to these people who today live by stealing the people, that they will not be able to shut me up”, he declared.

Rama: Independent and fair investigation

The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, declared that no Albanian citizen is above the law.

“Mr.Bashkim Tahiri should be investigated fairly and independently. The fact that he is the father of Saimir Tahiri doesn’t make him innocent, but certainly not guilty”, Rama declared.

Rama added that it is well known that this is not the first attack that the government undertakes against the family of Saimir Tahiri, who is known for reporting the government corruption, the organized crime and the Police leaders.

Rama mentioned what he considers “orchestrated trials” against Tahiri after he accused the Prime Minister’s children, and added that it is natural to suspect that this is an orchestrated arrest, as a revenge.

Rama reminded the arrest of the Kavaja Mayor, saying that it was for political reasons and the truth will not delay.
