15 years ago, when Patriarch Kirill visited Albania, Edi Rama was Mayor of Tirana. Today he meets Kiril as Prime Minister.

The Patriarch praised Rama for the changes made in Tirana when he was Mayor, saying that aesthetics plays a major role in people’s lives.

“I congratulate you for the great works that you have done as Mayor. Aesthetics plays a major outer role for harmony, but when we speak about harmony, we also speak about the strong connection between the culture of people and the Church’s work. I had the chance to visit a country with modern artworks that are a good example”, Kirill declared.

Rama said that his visit coincides with the 110th anniversary of the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. “I am happy that your visit coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. The first church was Saint George in Boston. Father Fan Noli was ordained by the Russian bishop of New York. You said that you were impressed by Tirana’s changes. I hope you leave Albania with great impressions”, Rama said.

Later the Prime Minister gave the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia a statue of Albania’s National Hero, George Castriot Skanderbeg, calling him the Great Alexander of Albania, and hope that Kirill will keep it in his office.
