Running water, 3000 illegal connections

Illegal connections and summer drought has caused some Tirana areas to
have problems receiving tap water. Only in Sauk, Senatorium and Qyteti
Studenti, there are around 3000 illegal connections that cause
limitations of the running water in Tirana.

“There are some areas that have created problems for the tap water supply. There’s a part of Tirana e Re, Rruga e Kavajes, Qyteti Studenti and Sauk. In 50 years, this is the second time that Selita and Shen Meri water sources bring such low levels of water. However, with the administration of the Directory of the Aqueduct and Canalizations, the distributing network and transmission lines, the low water level is not a problem. The problem is in finding a solution for the illegal connections and the citizens’ waste with water. In Tirana we have today 3000 liters of water per second, which can provide 247 of running water for 1.5 million residents. But the losses due to the illegal connections remove 50% of the total quantity”, Dollapi declared.

In Sauk, Sanatorium and Qyteti Studenti there will be no running water for the next days, because the Aqueduct Directory has cut all illegal connections and is building the new network.

The aqueduct will bring water to the citizens of this area only after they will have signed the contract with the Aqueduct.

“This area consumes 180 liters of water per second, when the city of Korçe consumes 120 liters of water per second, and it has 24/7 running water for 100.000 residents. Here we have 180 ls per 20.000 residents. This shows the scale of the illegal connections and the waste. Our action will continue until we will be able to serve the Tirana citizens maximally”, Dollapi declared.

After finishing the action in this area, the work will be concentrated in the informal areas of Babrru, Koder Kamze, Fushe Mezez, 5 Maji and Lapraka.

These areas count thousands of illegal connections, which after being cut would save 300 ls.
