Roma family wants to adopt baby they saved

Eraldo is a 22 month old boy without a family name. His sad story starts
almost two years ago, when the newborn was abandoned by his biological
mother to a poor family of the Roma community in Lezhe.

They took care of him as one of their children, and now he’s part of their family.

“His mother brought him to me on March 5th, asking me to take care of him for one night. She came at 5 am and never returned”, Dungaj declared.

Although she lives in poor economic conditions, her only request to the Albanian state is to legally adopt the child that she is raising.

“I have taken care of him for two years and my desire is to adopt him and make him part of my family. I ask the government to give me this opportunity. I’m not asking for anything else, despite the difficult economic situation”, Dungaj declared.

Eraldo has found the love of two parents who made all they could to raise him normally Now he has a family, his new parents and two Roma sisters that never abandon him as his mother did.

“I will never return the child to the biological mother. She abandoned him and I didn’t take him away from her. I have raised him for two years and gave him all that I could”, the woman says.
