Another person has been robbed in broad daylight in Tirana. Armed
robbers took from him 400.000 ALL while he was in his car, and the
police are still looking for authors.
This is turning into a concerning phenomenon for the Albanian capital.
140 violent robberies were registered in Tirana last year and 1000 others with the victim’s life in danger. More than half were break-ins.
On 15 February 2012, the Tirana Prosecution, Sokol Malaj, declared that the crime figures in Tirana are alarming.
Malaj had made the same appeal one year ago, and the situation hasn’t changed.
“The attacks against property have increased even this year. Thefts in public spaces have increased”, Malaj declared in 2011.
Thefts were a concern also mentioned by the police in the annual report. Only 20% of the robberies and theft cases have been solved, according to the police.
Similar robberies are turning into a serious problem for the society, inciting self-justice. Three killings during February 2012 were committed by victims of theft and robberies, which must be an alarm bell for the Police structures.
The public’s trust to the police for arresting the robbers is falling, while the merchants and their guards are killing the robbers themselves.
