The heavy snowfalls in Skrapar have reached to 80 centimeters, and the
icy temperatures of the recent days have blocked the roads that connect
the town with four communes.

The blocked roads are: Corovode – Qafa e Devrise ; Corovode –  Leshnje, Corovode – Gjerbes; Corovode –Dobrenje by isolating the villages Turbehove, Bujanik, Kulmak, Corotate, Dobrushe, Melove, Davidh, Tomorrice and Cerove, while the Potom commune says that the strong winds have destroyed the roofs of the village houses.

Residents say that the situation is getting more difficult, since they are lacking of power supply and medical services.

The vice Prefect of Skrapar, Avdyl Braho, says that the blocked areas need more support from the state.

No more food reserves in isolated areas

The situation is still problematic in some communes, such as Kolonje, Permet, Korce and Librazhd, due to the cold weather and snowfalls.

The food reserves for the livestock are almost over. In north, the Bulqize and Peshkopia communes have the residents traveling for many kilometers on foot, in order to secure food and medicine. The roads are completely blocked, due to the heavy snows.

In some cases, the intervention of the police and the army has been critical, when they have transported sick people and sent food reserves. But no helicopter can land at the Dukagjin villages, and the residents are still waiting for aid.

The food is finishing even in Shale, Shosh and Pult. The poor families are fed with boiled corn, while they don’t have electricity or medicine. two people died in this area, and one was transported by the police to be buried in Shkoder, because the snow in Dukagjin is two meters thick.

The situation is also difficult in Puka and Malesi e Madhe, with at least 30.000 people isolated from communication and any kind of supply.
