After fuels, the state will also control the prices of basic basket products that have risen significantly.
In a meeting with representatives of food supplies, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the establishment of a task force that will determine fixed prices for basic food until the end of the crisis and control of profits for businesses operating in this sector.
“Most blame the minority, the minority the majority. In order to avoid being blamed, we will step in and create a board for fixing the prices of basic products. Of course the profit margin will freeze.
“The state will do what is completely anti-capitalist, but it is the right thing to do.
“From the first day of the crisis, we started monitoring prices. Through this board we want to ensure that the increase in the trading price is an increase that comes from the increase in costs.
“With the issuance of the normative act, we will hold a first meeting tomorrow and will determine the prices of the majority and the minority.”
Strict measures from fines to confiscation of production will be implemented for operators who do not implement the decisions of the board, warned the head of government.
While requesting cooperation from the business sector, Rama added that in this situation of market destabilization, finding new food and energy markets remains their main challenge.
