The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, met with the new mayors elected
from the June 21st elections, and expressed his regret that those of the
right coalition were absent, except for the ones of Permet and Dropull.
“This is a direct damage to their work, because the work starts by harmonizing the steps for the new 61 municipalities. The Minister of Local Government has prepared a material for the municipalities, which is a practical manual for what should be taken in consideration in this transition process”, Rama declared.
Rama said this is a joint challenge between the local and central administrations, a challenge that the government wants to face with the mayor. He added that the government will support any Mayor who will have the will to cooperate with the government.
The Prime Minister said that the priorities of this cooperation are the reconstruction and repair of aqueducts, sewage canalization systems and waste management, which are urgent.
Rama appealed for a serious commitment in the public order aspect and a review of the fiscal system.
