The Kosovo Interior Minister, Bajram Rexhepi, declared that in the
operation held this Friday by KFOR for removing the northern roadblocks,
two KFOR soldiers and three Serbian protesters have been injured.

According to Kosovapress, Rexhepi confirmed the arrest of some Serbian protesters.

Speaking about the situation in Northern Mitrovica, Rexhepi said that it is still tensioned and KFOR remains determined to guarantee full freedom of the citizens in that area.

“The situation in Northern Mitrovica remained tensioned. KFOR is decided to establish free movement. KFOR has removed two roadblocks and is standing by, with the water cannon and tear gas. We have three injured Serbian protesters that are being cured in hospital, and a considerable number of arrested protesters, who have been transferred to southern Mitrovica”, Rexhepi declared.

The injury of the KFOR soldiers was confirmed by KFOR, through a press release, in which they state that two soldiers have been wounded during the operation for removing the Rudare blockade.

Kocijancic: Concerned for the situation in North

The European Union reacted about the recent situation in Northern Kosovo, which he considered as very concerning, and appealed for self restraint.

“We are concerned for the current situation in Northern Kosovo, where the violence started during a KFOR operation for removing the roadblocks. You know that for us, basic freedom is one of the key principles. This is one of the cases that have been discussed in the Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue. For the moment, the events on terrain are under development and we are contacting with our NATO partners. As always in these cases, we appeal everyone to show self-restraint and cooperate with the international organizations in Kosovo”, declared Maja Kocijancic, Spokesperson for Catherine Ashton.

Although guaranteeing free movement is a task of the European Union in Kosovo, EULEX has not been involved in today’s operation.
