Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The pension scheme is in a deep crisis. The Deputy Minister of Labor,
Filloreta Kodra, confirmed at the Commission of Labor that this scheme
has created a deficit of 1% of the GDP and the tendency is growing.
“We are facing a high deficit of the pension scheme, which reaches 1% of the GDP and has growing tendencies. This situation of the system indicators, and especially the weak financial stability shows the need of taking measures for reforming the system and for the contribution of all political parties to create a reform that will stand to time”, Kodra declared.
MP Eglantina Gjermani and the Head of the Labor Commission, Ethem Ruka, have brought facts for the bad situation of this scheme, which burdens the Albanians’ shoulders even more.
“The pension level in Albania has not yet reached that of the 90s. The quality of live for retired people has decreased. If they don’t have their children to help them, none of the retired people would be able to afford a living in Albania. A few times ago we asked the Ministry of Labor to calculate the minimum living level. We asked a hearing session and received a document which says that the Ministry of Labor doesn’t have the means or the competence to calculate the living minimum”, declared the Socialist MP, Gjermeni.
“The present calculations show that 1.2 persons are working for keeping a retired person. This is a very low proportion. To balance the scheme we must go at least to 3.5 to 4 persons that work for keeping a retired person with a decent living”, Ruka declared.
The deputy director of the Insurance institution, Astrit Hado, declared that the pension age increase for specific categories of people, such as miners, could be resolved through professional schemes.
The Deputy Minister of Labor has accused the opposition of withdrawing the pension reform, but the Socialist members declared that they have never been presented to this document in the last three years.
