Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The protest of some Sukth villages against the Energy Distribution
Company, which has cut their power for not paying the bills, has
escalated today.
After gathering in the first hours in front of the Manza power station, where the police created a human chain for not allowing them to enter the premise. Then the residents went to the Tirana-Durres highway, where they blocked the vehicles on both sides.
The police was unable to disperse the crowd which then marched towards Tirana. The protesters say that they will include in protests their wives and women, since the power cuts are deteriorating their lives.
The residents are concerned because some of them still receive power and some not, although the bills have not been paid to 100%. The protesters demand the government’s intervention in this situation that according to them is damaging the community’s life and the image of tourism in the beaches of the area, while the CEZ Company stays silent by avoiding any confrontation with the citizens.
Official sources from CEZ say that 28 power cabins are not giving anymore electricity to 694 families. The cause of this situation is that the residents have not paid the energy for several years, and the debt mounts to 65 million ALL in total.
A similar event has taken place in Ballsh, where 150 people have surrounded the power station after several villages had no electricity.
