Republicans demand Electoral Code amends

These statements have been made in a written form by the Republican
Party almost one year ago, which Arian Madhi decided to make them public
today.

According to the Republicans, the electoral threshold of 3% of the votes must be removed and the mandate distribution formula must be changed, since it currently deforms the electors’ will.

“As it has happened in the Albanian Parliament, it may happen again that a political party takes 9800 votes for one mandate, and another one 32000 votes per mandate. Different to what has been articulated, that this is due to the system, the Republican Party thinks that this is not due to the system, but to a clause of the electoral code, which removes the De Hondit calculation formula and includes a very simple formula that takes in consideration a correction in national scale”, Madhi declared.

The republicans also favor the open lists, which mean that the elected will be the candidate that has more votes, and not according the ranking of the candidates in the list assigned by the Party leader.

“The elected MP with direct vote, which has been chosen by the electors, has a responsibility not only for the political party that has elected him as a candidate, but also towards his voters. This opportunity would make the Albanian parliament receive more representative values and hold a political debate in the Parliament, in service of the electors and not only in service of the political alternative”, Madhi declared.

The Republicans prepared their platform for presenting it to the dialogue table that was summoned in the last year. Its failure left this platform forgotten, until the two big parties will finally agree for the next dialogue table.
