Three days after the Prime Minister designate, Edi Rama, introduced a
website where citizens can report the illegal buildings that have been
constructed, a boom of photos have been posted on the website
stoprrenimit.com (stop ruin).
The initiative seems to have taken a strong support from the citizens. The list of cities for the number of reports is led by Tirana, new photos are posted every minute.
The Tirana residents have uploaded photos of the additional constructions made to existing buildings, a phenomenon that became massive during the electoral period, when the Albanian capital turned into a construction site. There are also reports from downtown Tirana, just close to the General Prosecution.
The description made in many cases shows that citizens are looking for help, since, according to them, the additional constructions made on top of existing buildings have weakened the structures and their house walls now have cracks. They say that this initiative is their last resport, since the Tirana Municipal Police has not reacted.
After Tirana, there have been reports in Vlore, Golem, Ksamil and other coastlines, where buildings have been made without a criteria and citizens complain that the coastline is not as it used to be.
Besides the illegal constructions, citizens also report some constructions that according to them have received permit to occupy public spaces.
One of the most common features is the speed in which these constructions have been built. While the Socialist Party seems determined to start the new mandate by ending what they call an urban mayhem, it seems that the first action has received the citizens’ support.
Construction at Sanatorium demolished
The Tirana Municipality Construction Inspectorate has demolished another illegal object in the Sanatorium area.
A few days after citizens started reporting these buildings on the Socialist Party’s website, Inspector Florenc hoxha declared that similar reports have also been made on the website of the Tirana Municipality.
But the inspectorate, according to Hoxha, is trying to identify all of them and will not tolerate anything. According to Hoxha, they are verifying even the buildings that have started the legalization procedures.
