Removing immunity

The General Prosecutor insists that the immunity should be removed from
political high rank figures, so that the prosecution can investigate
them freely.

Asked by Top Channel about this, the General Prosecutor declared that the Prosecution must be left free to make at least the necessary investigations.

“As regards the immunity of judges, we have often given our opinion and we wanted it to be removed, or at least to have a limited one, so that the Prosecution can make the necessary investigations for establishing concrete accusations”, Rama declared.

Top Channel: Politics raised once again the debate for the immunity and politicians. Which is the stance of the General Prosecution?

Ina Rama: It’s the same like with the judges. We have always been in favor of removing immunity, but at any case we have said that the Prosecution must have all legal opportunities to investigate. Immunity is a defense that is used when we raise a formal accusation, and this was the proposition that we have always made, we have always favored the removal of immunity.

Top Channel: Has the General Prosecution found the immunity as an obstacle for investigating politicians?

Ina Rama: It is a very wide and discussed matter. We have always held the same stance. I don’t think that I can answer with a single interview.
