Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The need for a good management of the water resources in the region,
especially for the Drin River, has assembled in Tirana the Environment
Ministers of Balkan countries.
The participators expressed the need for taking concrete steps, based on the EU instructions.
“The Albanian government, based on the recent problematic, cooperated with foreign experts for compiling a plan of emergent interventions that coordinate the will and readiness of the countries around the Drin River”, declared the Albanian Prime Minister, Fatmir Mediu.
The Macedonian Minister, Abdilaqim Ademin, considered this conference as an important process of cooperation between the countries.
“The water bodies have spread in a geographical territory that includes five states. The political support for this process has an essential importance. Drin River enables us to promote political will for cooperation”, Ademi declared.
The ministers signed an understanding memorandum, the core of which had the preservation of the Drin River in all states that it trespasses.
This document is being approved in a moment when River exploitation in Albania has surpassed any limits, and different companies are illegally excavating for inert materials.
In Mat, Shkoder and Gjirokaster there are companies that are still using the riverbeds for inert materials, while Erzen River near Tirana was being exploited until some weeks ago.
Only after the systematic report of Top Channel, the inert companies finally suspended the works in the river.
