Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Three days before the expiring of the deadline of the Election Reform
Commission for changing the Electoral Code, the OSCE Ambassador in
Tirana, Eugen Wollfarth, met the SP leader, Edi Rama, for more than 60
minutes.
“The goal of this meeting is related with the progress of the reforms in general focusing mostly on the electoral code, for which they are making important efforts. The electoral code reform is expected to complete. There are several important matters that expect a solution. The most important is the transparency of the elections, so that the voters can trust that their vote will be counted. A special importance also has the existence of a full trust of the Central Election Commission. This is an extremely important issue that needs a solution”, Wollfarth declared.
The third recommendation of the OSCE-ODIHR after the May 8th elections says that the “composition formula of the Central Election Commission might be reconsidered for increasing the confidence for the impartiality and independence of the Electoral Code implementation.”
Top Channel asked the OSCE leader if he supports one of the SP propositions regarding the recomposition of the CEC, and he answered:
“As I said earlier, there must be a solution that has value for the future and that maybe could include even this suggestion. It is a matter that demands solution from the political parties that must find a common agreement. The CEC mandate will end before the next general elections. This is the moment for a solution that serves to the future”, Wollfarth declared.
Ambassador Wollfarth declared that he is against a new postponement of the deadline for reaching consensus between the political forces. The current deadline is July 12th.
One day ago, in an interview for Top Channel, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, Skender Gjinushi, criticized the OSCE by saying that this mission has had some hidden plans and that it is not on the Albanians’ side.
