Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The political parties of Kosovo are reacting differently to the idea of
the LDK leader, Isa Mustafa, who appealed to hold a referendum and let
the citizens decide if they want political dialogue with Serbia.
After mentioning this idea on Top Channel, on August, Mustafa Reiterated it during the Youth Day celebrations.
The Parliament Speaker, Jakup Krasniqi, declared that the political subjects must unify their stance about these talks.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hajredin Kuci, is quoted of saying that there is no reason for a referendum, since none of these decisions are outside the Constitution.
The Democratic Party, which has the majority in Parliament, also does not support Mustafa’s idea, saying that the Kosovo institutions are the ones that represent the citizens’ will, and the referendum would be a lost time.
LDK defended the referendum idea, with Ismet Beqiri saying that this is a national issue and that the country’s sovereignty could be affected.
The Self Determination Movement declared that the law for the referendum can be realized in short time and they agree that this idea should be put to life, as declared by Konjufca.
But so far the politicians have not discussed about the way in which Kosovo will be presented in the dialogue with Serbia. The Kosovo media have mentioned Prime Minister Thaci as the potential candidate that could represent Kosovo, but there has been no answer from the government.
