More than 10.000 citizens have signed the request for the referendum against the waste import law.

Civil society representatives ask all citizens to become part of this initiative.

“We invite all citizens to come together in this democratic process, for making a law, or repealing a law. In the specific case, we want to repeal two clauses of a law. This is our request. We might be right, we might be wrong… the next phase is the one that will decide. We must sign for this law that requires 50.000 signatures. We invite the citizens to participate in this process and sign our request in order to have a referendum, which would be a novelty for the Albanians”, declared the environmentalist Lavdosh Farruni.

Ardian Klosi underlined that this initiative is very important for stopping the foreign waste import in Albania.

“If we open the doors, the other countries, starting with our neighbors, will bring their wastes here and the process would be unstoppable by then. The entire lower area of Albania would be involved, including some parts of the mountainous regions. We are in a very delicate and dangerous moment, for the fates and the health of the citizens and our environment”, Klosi declared.

The representatives of the civil society underlined that it is necessary for every citizen to have the identity card before signing.
