Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Red and Black Alliance protested at the Mother Teresa Airport for
the arrival of the Serbian Foreign Minister. To avoid any confrontation,
the state protocol did not accompany the Serbian Foreign Minister from
the usual VIP exit.
Another exit was used for the escort to travel to Tirana under severe security measures.
The RBA declared that several European states have kept a harsh position against Serbia, while official Tirana is opening its doors.
” “The Socialist and the Democratic governments have held relations with Serbia that are unconditioned from what is happening in Kosovo. We inform the public opinion that very democratic states, such as Germany, Britain, Italy, Austria and EU institutions have reiterated that Serbia’s integration will be based on the recognition of Kosovo’s independence. The only ones who are not doing this, are the Albanian foreign diplomacy”, the RBA representative declared.
Merkic: In Tirana to cooperate
The Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivan Merkic, declared that his visit in Tirana has a great importance for the renovation of his relations in the region.
This is on Serbia’s good interest, after having different consults with homologues in the region, and Serbia is interested to good relations.
“It has been a long time since a Serbian Foreign Minister has visited Tirana, and this is visit is part of my Balkan tour. I hope to create good cooperation basis”, declared the Serbian Foreign Minister. Merkic is a diplomat that has decades of career at the Foreign Ministry. He became more known to the public when he was Ambassador to Cyprus, after the words circulating that he had helped hiding money of the Yugoslav banks during the 90s, and for money laundering.
The Serbian officials have often promised visits in Tirana, but they have been mainly avoided. The former President, Boris Tadic, was invited several times and despite the confirmations, he has never attended an official visit in Albania.
