The Red and Black Alliance held a protest in front of the Foreign
Ministry, reacting after the declaration of the Greek Foreign Minister,
Stavros Lambrinidhis, and some days after the agreement for the waters.
“We are against hidden talks between Tirana and Athens. The road for EU doesn’t go through Athens”, declared the representatives of the Alliance.
According to them, the Greeks have set three conditions for Albania’s EU membership and the silence of the Albanian parties is a shame for the Albanian politics.
Greek Foreign Minister: Maritime Agreement to be implemented
“The Maritime borders agreement between Albania and Greece must be implemented.” This was the message that the Greek Foreign Minister, Stavros Lambrinidhis, sent from Prishtina where he was attending an official visit.
“We have invested a lot for the good relations with Albania. We are waiting the implementation of this agreement that was signed between two free and democratic countries. This is what we expect, and we hope that this will happen soon”, Lambrinidhis declared.
The declaration of the Greek Foreign Minister came from Prishtina, after a meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci.
Asked if Greece supports Albania’s efforts for the EU status, Lambrinidhis, who will also visit Tirana, declared that his country, as an EU member, wants to see Albania as any other country in the region.
“We want Albania to be like every other country, in the position of a candidate state. The reason that I will go there with my colleague, Frattini, is to give this clear and strong message, because we have been protagonists in Albania’s aspirations for the EU perspective”, Lambrinidhis declared.
According to him, this depends by the Albanians’ commitment. He declared that he will give these messages even in Tirana with his Italian homologue, Franco Frattini, in the next week.
