Raw oil scandal

In the second session against the 16 defendants of the Virgin Oil trial,
most of them asked the court an accelerated trial by accepting the
Prosecution’s request.

The accelerated trial was asked by all drivers charged for failing to report the crime, who were present in the court room.

The defending lawyer of businessman Iliaz Fisheku, charged of laundering the proceeds of crime, asked not only accelerated trial, but even a separate case. The same demand was presented by the former Anti Smuggling employee, Arjan Daci.

The defendant Dashamir Kasaj asked only a separate case, through his lawyer Gezim Veleshnja.

The Prosecution demanded time to review the materials and to evaluate its opinion for the defendants’ requests.

Now the court expects to hear the preliminary requests of four of the defendants, among whom is Hajri Elezaj, charged of fraud with aggravated consequences, who will presumably be trialed only with the representation of his lawyers, as he proves to be a fugitive.

In the trial request, the prosecution alleges that a quantity of thousands tons of raw oil has not been exported abroad, as the documents indicate, but it has been sold in the Albanian market, after being mixed with imported oil.

The Prosecutors claim that this has caused not only fiscal evasion, but also an enormous harm to the citizens who have been defrauded by buying unprocessed oil.
