The NATO General Secretary, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, declared today in
Brussels that there is no need for special investigations about the KFOR
behavior in Northern Kosovo.

“I received the reports and spoke with President Tadic. I offered the information to the Serbs through the common military channels. KFOR troops have clearly acted for self-defense”, Rasmussen declared, referring to the Qeshmellug event.

Rasmussen released this comment during a press conference in Brussels, before the meeting of the Defense Ministers of NATO member countries.

He underlined that the Ministers would discuss for Kosovo and appealed all parties to avoid unilateral actions and inflammatory messages.

“I invite all parties to commit for dialogue, and not conflicts. A safe future is on the interest of all Kosovo citizens”, Rasmussen declared.

Speaking about the KFOR presence in the border checkpoints, the head of the Alliance explained that it is important for NATO to be there, in order to protect all citizens.

“In full accordance with our mandate, we are there to guarantee safety and freedom of movement. We help EULEX for this”, Rasmussen underlined.

“KFOR is third to respond. First is the Kosovo Police; second is EULEX and KFOR is third”, declared the General Secretary of NATO.

He added that the new crisis in Kosovo has shown how quickly violence can erupt and how important it is for NATO to continue their mission there.
