The Albanian opposition leader, Edi Rama, visited the Sterbeq village
farmers, Malesi e Madhe, where the concerns are almost the same as
anywhere else: unaffordable production cost.
They brought the same concerns, such as the high price of gas and chemicals, the lack of the irrigation and drainage system.
They say that they receive no help from the state and no defensive politics from it, making their products be sold under cost. One of the farmers mentioned Montenegro as an example.
“The farmers are abandoned. The livestock has no support or protection”, Rama declared.
But the farmers of this area also reported another practice of the Ministry of Agriculture, which uses nominations for their agricultural products which makes them to fail.
“There are orders for what you must plant. Nuts were planted in an area where they cannot grow, and olives in a dry area where there is nothing”, one of the farmers declared.
“We need to build a map for the realization of the yield for the entire Albanian territory, and look at the production in a complexity”, the SP leader declared.
Rama and the secretary for the Socialist program, Ilir Beqja, held an economic activity in Kosana, for the cultivation of sage, based on the gread demand in the foreign market.
Referring to the declaration of the Agriculture, Genc Ruli, which says that the Albanian farmer is profiting today 20.000 for hectare, Rama declared with irony: “The only country where you can find 20.000 USD is here. But people find it difficult to provide food to the family”, Rama declared.
